Abstract
The sixty cases of tivia fracture(Gross-Kempf >>28 cases, Brooker-Wills >>32 cases), treated using intramedullary nail from October 1989 to June 1993, were followed up.
1. Among the 60 cases, 46 cases(76.6%) were male, and the most common cause was traffic accident in 41 cases(70.0%).
2. The 48 cases(80.8%) were closed fractures, 24cases(40.0%) comminuted fracutres and 29cases(48.3%) fractures of distal third of tibia.
3. The average bone union time was 18.5 weeks in Grosse-Kempf nailing group and 17.8% weeks in Brooker-Wills group. The average operation time was 74.7 minutes in Grosse-Kempfnailing group and 42.7 minutes in Brooker-Wills nailing group.
4. The functional results according to Karltrom were satisfactory in 27 cases(96.8%) of Grosse-Kempf group, and 24 cases(75.0%) in Brooker-Wills nailing group.
